Luxury Residence Group is working with Wheeler Kearns Architects (shell & core) and Kadlec Architecture + Design (interiors) on this distinctive single-family home The 13,145 sf, 5-story home’s exterior is truly exceptional in that it uses an eclad system that combines insulated metal panels clad with granite and aluminum windows on an aluminum grid. The interior is no less spectacular starting at ground level with a garage, basketball court, media/play center on the first floor. The next three floors consists of 3 bedrooms, a master suite, office space, family lounge, kitchen, living room, family dining room and outdoor terrace. The rooftop features an outdoor mechanical room, Zen garden with planters, an office and spa area. The entire home features in-floor radiant heating and the driveway even gets the luxury treatment with a glycol snowmelt system.
With such a remarkable façade, ensuring that all the details were perfect was of the utmost importance. Our in-house quality experts worked with Wheeler Kearns and the façade/stone subcontractor to review flashing and insulation details, constructing a partial mock-up of the exterior façade and, ultimately improving the metal plate extension sill detail around all openings for a complete seal.
Constructing a single-family home on a tight urban site provides opportunities to build upon lessons learned from Power’s 90-year history of building in Chicago. Communication is key when constructing in a busy residential neighborhood and our team instituted updates and alerts concerning early construction activities. In order to be sensitive the surrounding neighbors, we planned our logistics to minimize the closure of the private alley behind the property, only doing so when absolutely necessary, and closely monitored vibration during the installation of 15 bell caissons.
Now the winter is upon us and our steel structure is up, we are staying on schedule by enclosing the structure in visqueen in order to heat the space for the concrete pours and fire proofing. Check out our in progress photos below!
